Invented Archives & Collections, Phillips Academy Andover, Art 225, 9th Grade.

In Visual Studies, or art foundations, students look at archives as a genre of art inspired by artists Jon Rafman, Ryan Trecartin, Walid Raad and Zoe Leonard as well as a visit to the campus archives. Students create archives with content and formats of their own choice, practicing the skill of concept building, intentionality, and idea execution.  Understanding the bias in archives, as well as the expansion of personal voice, agency, and narratives are focal points towards the learning goal of articulating the purpose and impact of making conceptual art.
