Extending the Body with Invented Drawing Tools, Phillips Academy Andover, Art 505, 10th-12th Grade.

Inspired by the dynamic work of Rebecca Horn and authors of Sick, Advanced Drawing & Painting students consider ability and the role the body plays in creating art. Students are prompted to conceptualize a part of the body they wish to “extend,” challenge, reinvent, morph, connect with, or cover. The tool they create is both a sculpture as it is a means to drawing, similarly to how the process of making art becomes potentially more relevant than its product. Students are invited to record using their tools within a context of performance.
