Expanded Self-Portraits, Phillips Academy Andover, Drawing 304, 9th-12th Grade.

As a final project, students apply learned technical skills of portraiture, proportions, color, narrative, and experimentation to a more open-ended self- portrait. Inspired by discussions of artists Lorna Simpson, Julio Salgado, Juliana Huxtable, Kevin Beasley, and Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, students are invited to use their art to challenge dominant culture with narrative, representation and meaningful explorations of their identities.
